This trip was one of the most inspiring and amazing experiences of my life. Being able to play with the kids that were about to undergo surgery was remarkable. To be able to make a difference in a child’s life with such a small action was amazing; by playing with these children, we had made this terrifying experience easier. It was incredible to be able to make these children a little happier before their surgeries and see such a genuine, joyful smile, even with their deformity. Not only did we get to play and interact with the children, but we also got to observe the surgeries, which was an extraordinary experience. It was amazing to see the direct impact the money we raised as a club at ISB had on these children. This trip and these children were also an inspiration to me. The children were having surgery at such young ages and still managed to be brave and happy. In addition, they didn’t seem to be conscientious about their cleft lip or palette. They really inspired me to be grateful for all the great things I have in life. If these children could go through all of this, having to deal with having a facial deformity and undergoing surgery, I realized that I could handle any challenge that came my way, because it couldn’t even begin to compare to their challenges. I learned a lot from this trip, and it was truly inspiring to see the difference I made in these children’s lives.
