Ket Yee Wai

Ket Yee Wai

Story written by Kristopher Hall

It would be nice to believe that we live in a world where adults would never think of teasing a child about a cleft lip, but that is not the world in which we live. It is certainly not the world in which Ket Yee Wai was born. His mother and father left their home in Burma to work in a Thai construction camp making almost nothing because it offered the chance of free food. People with so little wake to a world with little hope, and that little hope must get even smaller when listening to their child being mocked by other parents in a work camp. Thanks to Operation Smile, Ket Yee Wai was able to receive his life changing operation and now his parents can believe in a future of hope for their son and his one week old baby brother. It is amazing that people who have had so little are using this new hope to dream of a future in which both boys will grow up to help others. With parents like that, they are off to a good start.
